HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. BY TEIjEQBAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, April 13. The High Commissioner cables as follows from London under date April 11th:—The mutton market is quiet, and holders are firm. Arrivals from all parts since January Ist show a decrease of 550,000 carcases over the corresponding period last year. Small shipments are expected. Light weights are extremely scarce, and a brisk demand prevails. The following are the current quotations:—Canterbury mutton 4Jd, North Island 4§d, River Plate 3£d per lb. There is a dull sale for heavy carcases of mutton, which is quoted as follows: —Canterbury SJd, North Island 3|d, River Plate 3|d. The lamb market is firm. Stocks on hand are light, but the supply meets the demand. Heavy weights can obtain a smal> premium. Canterbury brands are quoted at s§d, other than Canterbury 51 d. The beef market is firm, and stocks of New Zealand brands on hand are light. Supplies of River Plate beef are heavy. There is a moderate demand, which is purely speculative. Hindquarters are quoted at 3£d, and forequarters at 3Jd. Tha butter market is steady, the best quality being scarce, and in good demand. The choicest New Zealand butter is Ills, Australian 107s, Argentine 107s, Danish 109s, Siberian 106s. The cheesa market is quiet, and there is a tendency in favour of buyers. White makes are quoted at 655, and coloured, of which there is a small supply, at 62s per cvvt. The hemp market is rising, and there is a better demand. Good fair grade is quoted at £26 10s, fair grade £25 10s. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and buyers are not keen to do business. Bright clean 171b seed is bringing 80s per cwt. The wool market is depressed, and there is a weaker downward tendency. The following are the current quotations for Bradford tops: —36's low crosabreds B£d, 40's low crossbreda 9d, 44's medium crossbreds lld,so's halfbreds Is 4d, 56's quarterbreds Is Bd, 60's merinos Is lid. Received April 12, 9.17 a.m LONDON, April 12. Sheep.—Best North Island is quoted at 4d per lb; rest unaltered. Lamb. —Canterbury light and medium, is quoted at s|d per lb; Norcji Island, 5Jd per lb. River Plate sheep.—Light 3|d, heavy 3Jd per lb. Beef.—-Forequarters 3£d, hindquarters 3§d, River Plate, same price. Rabbits are firm, and all arrivals are quickly cleared.
