THE GERMAN NAVY.
A NEW -CRUISER LAUNCHED. fieeeiwed April 13, 8.30 a.m. LONDON, April 12. Germany has launched a 15,000 ton cruiser., the Bleucher. The extensive shipbuilding programme for the navy proposed by the German Government is exciting much attention in Britain. The recent statement of Herr von Tirpitz, the German Secretary of State for the Admiralty, that Germ;ny is building now as quickly as Great tfrltain, and that he would willingly accelerate the present rate if he could procure armour-plates and guns, is held in many quarters to warrant some action on the part of the Britifch Government. Mr Stead, in an article on the subject in the "Review of Reviews," advocates the Government entering upon the definite policy of building two British battleships for every one Germany builds, although such a scheme would involve the increase of the naval Estimates to the extent of £40,000,000 a year.
