TEN MEN SUFFOCATED. HEROIC ATTEMPTS AT RESCUE. LONDON, April 10. News of an explosion, with loss of life, comes from Somerset. The disaster occurred at the' Norton Hill colliery, while a night shift composod of thirty men was at work. Twenty of the men managed to make their escape, but ten were suffocated, despite repeated attempts to effect their rescue. Many of the rescuers were overcome by gaseous fumes and were cai--ried out of the mine in an insensible condition. One died after being brought out. CAUSE OF THE EXPLOSION. Received April 10, 4.30 p.m. LONDON, April 11. The explosion is attributed to the ignition of dust during shot firing.
