Mr A. L, Webster has been appointed secretary of the Greytown Fruitgrowing Company. Mr W. C. Buchanan has been elected patron of the Martinborough Football Club, Mr H. Mackay nresident, Mr H. Evans secretary, and Mr D. Bvrne captain. Mr J. Harvey, of Carterton, who intends residing in Wellington, was on Tuesday night the recipient of a , presentation from the members of the Carterton Orchestral Society. Mr M. Donaldson, who is leaving the Carterton district, was presented, on Wednesday evening, by the members of the Carterton Foresters' Lodged with a framed emblem and neck ribbon. Mr J. A. Ross, who left the local branch of the Stock Office on-Wed nesday, to take up an important position in a private capacity in the South Wairarapa, was presented by his office colleagues with a token of esteem prior to leaving. The presentation, which took the form of various smokers' requisites, a bridle, and a pair of spurs, was marie by Inpsector Elliot, who expressed regret at the departure of Mr Ross, but pleasure at knowing he was going to an important post. Other speakers made eulogistic reference to the kindly qualities of the recipient, and wished him success. The health of. Mr Ross was then toasted, and a farewell taken, Mr Ross leaving immediately after the function for Featherston. i A pleasing function took place at the conclusion of the meeting of the Masterton School Committee, last evening, when Mr W. H. Jackson, headmaster of the District High School, was the recipient of a present from the .members and several exmembers of the Committee, to mark the occasion of his recent wedding. Mr R. Brown (Chairman of the Committee), in presenting Mr Jackson with a handsome cut"g'ass cruet, sil-ver-mounted, said the gift was rather belated, but that was due to a difficulty in getting the members of the Committee together previously. He paid a high ecomium to Mr Jackson's sjrvices during the twenty years he hid been in charge of thejjschool, and in wishing him and his wife every future happiness and prosperity, ussured him that he enjoyed the confidence of the Committee and the parents of the school children. Several other members endorsed these sentiments. Mr Jackson, in acknowledging the gift on behalf of his wife and himself, assured the Committee that his labour was one of love, and said that next to the happiness of his own heme, he enjoyed the pleasure of attending to his school and the wants of its 900 odd pupils. He thanked the Committee and the parents for the tupport they had given him in the past, and felt that whatever he had done for the school, ' he could not have achieved such splendid results without being backed up by the/ Committee. He hoped to continue his work for many years yet, and still merit the confidence of the Committee and parents.
