THE HACKENSCHMIDT -GOTCH MATCH. A BRUTAL EXHIBITION. Received April 7,. 8.53 a.m. The New York "World" says Gotch jammed his thumbs in';o Hackenschmidt's eyes and punched his face, fetching bluod. Hackenschmidt repeatedly complained, but the referee declined to'interfere. Hackenschmidt states that Goteh's body was oiled. Gotch dug his finger-nails into his face and tried to pull an ear oF. He fought like a cat.
A cablegram from New York yesterday stated that Gotch, the American wrestler, severely punished Hackenschmidt at Chicago during a catch-as-catch-can contest lasting two hours He finally threw Hackenschmidt heavily. Though the referee disallowed the fall, Hackenschmidt refused to continue, thereby forfeiting the world's championship.
