LABOUR TROUBLES IN AUSTRALIA.
THE SYDNEY STRIKE. AN INDIGNANT DENIAL. Received April 2, 9.47 a.m. SYDNEY, April 2. The strikers indignantly deny that there was any interference with the North Coast Company's steamer Sundah, whose departure was delayed through alleged tampering with her machinery.
SYMPATHY EXPRESSED. UPHOLDING FREEDOM OF CONTRACT. SYDNEY, April 2. The South Australian Employers' Federation has expressed sympathy with the New South Wales Federation in the stand it has taken to uphold freedom of contract. Received April 23, 12.30 a.m. SYDNEY, April 2. The conference between the representatives of the Employers' Federation and the Wharf Labourers' Union was continued to-day. The conference did not conclude its deliberations and adjourned till to-morrow. The Labour Council decided tonight that if the conference is abortive all the Unions support the strikers.
