It is a matter for congratulation that Masterton is to have a Horticultural Society added to its many useful institutions. Some thirty ladies and gentlemen assembled at the Exchange Hall, last night, and founded the new organisation under the designation of the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society. There was much enthusiasm among those present, and an excellent set of officers was selected —men who are certain to push the affairs of the new society forward with skill and energy. The lady officers have yet to be appointed. The advantages of such a society in Masterton will be manifold, but if it does nothing more than create an increased interest in the cultivation of flower gardens amongst those who at present neglect to beautify their vacant front plots it will have accomplished much. We wish the new society the fullest measure of success.
