HAWKE'S BAY FRUITGROWERS ASSOCIATION.

By Telegraph —Press Association. NAPIER, March 30. A largely-attended meeting of the Hawke's Bay Fruitgrowers' Association was held at Hastings on Saturday. Resolutions were passed strongly condemning "certain statements made in a southern newspaper: "that the codlin moth could not be controlled, and that the Orchard and Garden Pest Act was worse than useless," and asserting positively that from the experience of members' of the Association if the instructions given by the Government officials as to systematic spraying were followed the crop as a rule is practically saved. The Government were urged to strictly enforce the regulations in force with regard to these pests, and also the fruit fly, which was regarded as very much worse than the codlin moth. An instance was quoted of an orrhardist who three years ago could only get 70 cases of clean apples, this year by systematic spraying got over 10 tons of apples from the same orchard.
