BURNT OUT SETTLERS.

APPLICATIONS FOR GRASS SEED. BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION , WELLINGTON, March 30. Up to the present 248 burnt out settlers in the Wellington Land District have been furnished by the State with grass seed, of a total value of £9,955. Applications for assistance close to-morrow. The Wellington District appears to have suffered most from the fires, judging 1 by the applications for assistance. About twenty settlers in Hawke's Bay have been relieved. Up to March 19th there had been forty cases (representing £1,500) dealt with in Auckland, ninety-three in Taranaki (involving £1,300), sixteen in Marlborough (involving £1,400), and thirty-one in Nelson (involving £800). Of course these totals will be considerably increased by the additional applications which have been received since the 19th inst. 1
