WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Wairair£}pa.South County Council was held ,at the County Offices, Carterton, on .Saturday, there being present Crs Wm. Perry (chairman), R. G. Welch, >G. Stevens, T. V. Moore, D. Douglas, .H. S. Mason, and J. Strang. .Apologies for absence were received from Crs *. Court and JR. Barrer.
The treasurer reported as follows; —Dr balance £6lO 10s 2d, receipts since last meeting £54 2s Id.
A letter was received from Mr H. JNitz directing the Council's attention to the condition of the Kaiwhata Road. —No action taken.
A proclamation was received re with the Wangaehu Road, and it was decided that the Council protest against taking over the, road in its present state.'
The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote acknowledging receipt of a petition, signed by ratepayers of the Belvedere and Dalefield Ridings, .protesting against a portion of the Borough of Carterton being included in the County, on the grounds that the revenue which would be derived from that portion of the Borough proposed to be inicluded:, would not be an adequate return .for the maintenance of roads and .bridges.
Messrs Workman and Sons wrote calling the attentibn of the Council to the state of Beef Creek Road.—lt was decided that the Engineer be instructed to employ a man to put the road in order.
W. Booth and Co. wrote asking for a renewal of their -tramway license. —lt was decided that, with the consent of the settlers interested, an extension of time for two years be flowed.
Tne Engineer's report was read. On tbe motion of Cr Welch, it was decided that metal be put on a portion of the Waihaki ke Road.
Tha Engineer was empowered to have culverts put in on tbe road leading off from Woodlands, Road. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Douglas, it was decried that a stable be erected at Te Wbarau for the accommodation of the Council's horses. J- and N. Cadwallader's tender for the delivery of metal at 2s 4sd per cub : c yard was accepted. Cr Douglas reported that he had arranged w.ith Mr Kummer for the use of a whare for roadmen free of cost. —It was decided that Mr Kumirier's offer be accepted, and that a vote of thanks be accorded to him.
A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Wirr. Fisher for the capable manner in which he had represented the Council <oxl the Wairarapa District Hospital Board and Hospital Trust. Accounts amounting to .£691 16s were passed for jpayment.
