SALE OF QUEEN STREET FRONTAGES.
Messrs W. B. Chenuells and Co. 's rooms, in Perry Street, were well filled on Saturday last, when the old Empire Hotel site, having a frontage of 78J feet to Queen . Street, was submitted to public auction. As often happens, the property was not sold under the hammer, although the last public bid; reached the sum of £53 per foot, at which figure it was passed in. Immediately afterwards, however, lot 4 was purcha&ed by Mr E. G. Groombridge >at £55 per foot, and the adjoining section found a buyer in.Mrs J. O'Meara at a similar figure.- The remaining two lots were subsequently sold to Mr John Fraser, the District Valuer. The buildings now upon the site (for removal within fourteen days) were disposed of under the hammer to Mr John Jepson for £7l, and the small sheds in the rear to Mr J. Cavanagh at £lO 10s. '
