At Belvedere,, last week, Miss Mabel Burnett, who is to be married, shortly, was entertained at a social! evening by a large number of friends. Adjutant-Captain Cameron, of No. 2 Regiment Wellington Mounted Rifles, has received notice of his promotion to the position of Adjutant. Corporal Holmes, of the Masterton Rifles, who was recently married, was presented at the annual meeting of the company, on. (Friday evening, with a handsome set of carvers. Miss Kirk, the official visitor for the Wellington and Wairarapa Charitable Aid Board, was on a visit to Carterton on Friday. Miss Kirk will visit Te Wharau this week. At Featherston on .Thursday evening the Rev. Ji Brown, of the Presbyterian Church, vwas tendered a fare,well sbcial and presented with a purse of sovereigns. One day .last week Mr S. Aitchison, of Featherston, v while cycling, collided with another cyclist. He was thrown heavily to the ground, i and sprained his right knee. The accident will incapacitate him for some weeks. At the annual meetings of the Masterton and Red Star Football Clubs, eulogistic references were respectively made to the services rendered to their clubs during the past season by the respective secretaries, Messrs D. E. Parton and T. G. Hoar. On Friday evening, at the West Taratahi School, a farewell social and dance was tendered to Mr A. Ross, Chairman of the School Committee, who intends . taking up his residence ah Masterton. , Several' vocal items were conti'ibuted during-the evening, and dancing was indulged in till a late hour, refreshments being supplied by the ladies. At a suitable interval Mr Ross was presented with a handsome travelling bag by the residents of the district in appreciation of his past services in educational matters. Mr Ross suitably acknowledged the presentation.
