AUCKLAND, March 27. In consequence of. the collapse of the gum market the Austrians engaged in digging in this province are sending a deputation to interview the Minister in Wellington with the object of getMng land set upart with a view to establishing atl Austrian settlement for agriculturalists and viticulturalist?. HUKITIKA, March 27. Fcr some thirteen sections of land in the Wataroa Valley, South Westland, nearly 400 applications have been received, as many as 40 applications being received for a single section. Twenty-two applicants were excluded from the ballot as being ineligible, already possessing sufficient land. The Acting-Commissioner announced thai the board had decided to enforce the provisions of the la.v as to improvements and residence, and successful applicants were 'warned to this effect." All of them, however, agreed to submit to the conditions. GISBORNE, March 27. The ballot for the Te Arai Estate, lately acquired by the Crown, was held to-day. There were 55 sections disposed of, and the applicants came from all parts of the dominion; 684 applications in all being received. The following sections were drawn by outside applicants: —Section la, 280 acres, W. G. Leyland, East Clive; section 3, 213 a'cres, Miss Mary Macdonald, Wellington; section 9a, 266 acres, Mrs C. H. Cullen, Waipawa; section 11, 417 acres, D. J. Larnach, Wellington; section 12, 171 acres, Mrs Angus Macdonald, Auckland; section 7, 302 acres, D.A. Lees, Wairoa ;section 8, 260 acres.Mrs C. G. Lees, Napier; section 9, 272 acres, C. Tricket, Hastings, section 11, 502 acres, F. Griffith, Christfiburch; section 12, 392 acres, Thomas Ward, Wairarapa; section 4, Turanganui, J. Sisterton, Rangawahia; section 7, Turanagnui, 36£ acres, E. Metcalfe, Wellington; section 26, 340 acres, Winifred Kiiapman, Southbrook, Canterbury; section 1, block 9, 134 acres, G. T.
