AUCKLAND, March 27. Fcr some thirteen sections of land in the Wataroa Valley, South Westland, nearly 400 applications have been received, as many as 40 applications being received for a single section. Twenty-two applicants were excluded from the ballot as being ineligible, already possessing sufficient land. The Acting-Commissioner announced thai the board had decided to enforce the provisions of the la.v as to improvements and residence, and successful applicants were 'warned to this effect." All of them, however, agreed to submit to the conditions. GISBORNE, March 27. The ballot for the Te Arai Estate, lately acquired by the Crown, was held to-day. There were 55 sections disposed of, and the applicants came from all parts of the dominion; 684 applications in all being received.
