MASTERTON FOOTBALL CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING, The annual meeting of the Maste:"ton football Club was held last evening, 20 members being 1 present, Mr t D. K. Logan presiding. , The annual report and balsnce- f sheet were read and adopted, the j chairman congratulating the club on ■ the successful season experienced by , the club last year, and commending j the various officials for the energy displayed by them in their work. The following new members were elected:—J. Prendergast, W. Mc- j Kenzie, L. A. Denton, F. Jackson, j Maurice Prendeville, W. Iggulden, j T. Clark, J. O'Connor, G. Cormick, i G. Thomas, W. Hawke, G. Parker, 1 A. Langley, A. Logan, Andrew ( Thompson, E. Vince. The chairman made eulogistic j reference to Mr J. O'Leary being . elected to a position in the North ' Island representative team last sea- , son. j
The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr A. P. Whatman; President, Mr W. G.Lamb; Vice-Presidents, Messrs W. P. James, J. Elder, A. Henderson; Auditor, Mr W. C. Perry; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr D. E. Parton; Management Committee, Messrs J. Lyall, P. Barry, J. O'Leary, B. Chapman; Match Committee, Messrs J. O'Leary, D. K. Logan and J. Langley; Delegates to Wairarapa Rugby Football Union, Messrs J. Lyall, J. Langley and B. Chapman. Messrs A. B. Charters and P. O'Leary were elected life members of the club. The chairman also extended a hearty welcome to Mr W. McKenzie as a member of the club, referring in a laudatory manner to the services rendered the game by that gentleman.
It was decided to instruct the delegates to the conference which elected the delegates to the New Zealand Union to support the election of Messrs Logan and Grant. It was resolved that the delegates should support the election of Mr J. W. Cochrane to the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union's Selection Committee.
Mr H. M. Boddington moved that the delegates bring before the Union the question of paying drag fares for players out of gate receipts, and specially bring before the Union the position of above with regard to junior players. A long discussion ensued, strong support being accorded the motion, which was carried. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr A. P. Whatman for the use of the Boxing Hall. It was decided to open the season on Saturday next, and to play Carterton on April 4th. Messrs Boddington and Perry were appointed to report on the question of suitable grounds. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the secretary, Mr D. E. Parton, for his admirable woik in that position, and also to the retiring officers.
