ANNUAL DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES. (From Our Own Correspondent). TE NUI, March 23. The annual distribution of school prizes took places in the Town Hall on the 20th inst., and although the evening was wet, there was a very large attendance. The items rendered by the children were excellent, and reflected great credit on Mr and Mrs Sutton. In singing, club swinging, and pole exercise, there was a vast improvement from last year. The Rev. J. H. Sykes, chairman of the School Committee, Addressed those present at some length, and asked the parents to take a still keener interest in school matters, as it was unfair to leave everything to the schoolmaster; After paying a high tribute to Mr and Mrs Sutton, for the able way in which the children had been instructed, Mr Sykes then presented the prizes as follow Standard Vl.—Arthur Langdon, Doris Hancock, Ellen Groves, William Groves. Standard V.—Rewi Speedy, Rose Marsh, Nora Speedy, Lucy Perry, John Johnston. Standard IV. —Maud Schofield, Maud Speedy. Standard lll.—Elizabeth Johnston. Standard II. —Pratt Hancock, Edward Mclsaac, Alfred Mclsaac. Standard I. -Ralph Groves, Nora Tuckett. Primers. —Annie Schofield, Maggie Johnston, Gordon Speedy, James Mclsaac, Flora Perry, Lily Morrison, Elsie Crawford, Thomas Barr. Sewing Prizes. Standard Vl.—Doris Hancock, 1; Ellen Groves, 2. Standard V.—Nora Speedy. Standard IV. —Maud Speedy. Standard lll.—Elizabeth Johnston. Standard 1.-Nora Tuckett, 1; Annie Schofield, 2.

The following programme was rendered: School songs, "Happy Land," and "O'er the Ice," the scholars; pianoforte duet, "The Bold Hunter," M. Schofield and M. Speedy; recitation, "Little White Lily," primers; pianoforte solo, "Dresdina," E. Johnston; club exercise, scholars; recitation, "Jack and Ned," boys in Standards I. and II.; pianoforte duet, "Bonnie Dundee," m. Groves and N. Speedy; recitation, "After Blenheim," girls in Standards 111. and IV.; pianoforte solo, "March of the Troubadours," D. Hancock; recitation, "Horatius," Standards V. and VI.; school songs, "Picnic Glee and "Peacefully Rest," scholars; distribution of prizes, the Chairman of School Committee; "Sir Roger de Coverley," the children. Dancing was afterwards indulged in till the early hours of the morning.
