AN EXPERIMENT. Received March 23, 9.28 p.m. PEKIN, March 23. An announcement has been made here that Britain has agreed to an experimental decrease in the importation of opium for a period of three years in order to see whether the cultivation of poppy and the number of opium smokers would be lest>ened, and the importation in that case decreased annually. A decree, issued at Pekin, orders further measures to deal with the evil.
