WELLINGTON MAYORALTY.
WELLINGTON, March 22. Mr J. G. W. Aitken, M.P., has decided to contest the Wellington Mayoralty at the coming election. THE PREMIER IN THE NORTH. OPOTIKI, March 22.. The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) continued his eastern tour on Saturday, and had a trying day of sixteen hours practically continuously travelling. He delivered addresses at every district he visited, including Matata, Whakatane and Opotiki. At the last-named place he addressed a crowded meeting in the local hall, and reviewed the work of the last session. He also dealt exhaustively with the native land question, and the Government's action in appointing a Royal Commission for tne settlement of the difficulty. The Prime Minister rested quietly at Opotiki yesterday, and commenced the return journey at 5 o'clock, this mornirg. He will arrive at Rotorua this evening, and return to Auckland by to-morrow's express.
