WHARF LABOURERS' STRIKE.
Received March 12, 4 p.m. SYDNEY, March 12. The strike decided upon by the ■wharf labourers was enforced to-day. Excepting the wharves of the North 'Coast and Illawarra Companies, which employ non-unionists, and ;against which the strike is directed, practically all the inter-State wharves a'rq,)dle, a few permanent hands only working. i- The most affected are Howard -Ifcmith and Co., Huddart Parker and J - Co.. the Union Company, and the Adelaide Company.
A dispute has existed for some time between the wharf labourers and some of the coastal companies regarding the employment of nonunionists on their wharves. As a result, a general eall-out of the waterside' workers was announced late on Wednesday night. A ballot that was -taken almost unanimously favoured not handling any cargo in ompany with non-unionists after midnight on Wednesday night.
