COUNTY COUNCIL.

FINANCE COMMITTEE. TroF finance committee of the Masterton County Council met yesterday morning. Present Crs Kebbell (chairman), Harris and Morris. The treasurer reported the financial position to be:— Bank general fund account, dr., £3,976 18s 8d; local bodies loans account, cr., £275 17s lOd; a:counts, dr., balance, £3,982 ■3s 8d; receipts since February llth, .£2,142 6s sd. Accounts amounting to £3,209 5s 2d were passed for payment. It was decided to recommend payment of £1 each to Messrs Walker, Daken, and Searle, for watching the -bridges during bush fires on Te Mara road. Af letter from the Masterton Golf CIsR offering £ls towards estimated •cost (£23) of forming and metalling -about 10 chains on the golf links road was referred to Crs Harris and Welch and the engineer. It was decided to recommend the Council to favourably consider an ■offer by Mr David Donald to provide horses, carts and drivers for metalling 16 chains of Pakaraka road if the Council would supply fillers and spreaders. A letter from the Wairarapa South County Council regarding the quid pro quo grant of £l5O for the Waingawa swing bridee wao referred to the chairman for action. The committee decided to pay £7 to the Pahiatua County Council for repairs to the road leading to Mr •Avery's property, Alfredton.
