FOOTBALL.
J MASTERTON CLUB. A meeting of the committee of the .above Club, was held in the Y.M.C.A. last night. The preparation of the annual report and balance-sheet was .loft in the hands of Messrs Lyall, J. O'Leary and the secretary, and it " was decided to have the report printed as usual. The annual meeting is to -be held at the end of the present month. The Athletic and Southern ■Clubs, of Wellington, intimated . that ■they would be visiting Masterton during Easter, and wished to meet the Club's representatives. The secretary stated that he had already arranged the fixtures for Easter Saturday, and ■had made application for use of the Showground's. With a view to getting into form for these matches all members of the Club are requested to taw part in a practice match on the •Showgrounds on Saturday week next. The secretary was instructed to write and thank Mr A. P. Whatman for placing the Boxing Hail at the disposal of the Club last season. Messrs Logan, O'Leary and Lyall were deputed to consult with the Gymnasium Club with regard to ■opening the Gymnasium during the coming season. It was decided to recommend to the annual meeting that the Club's delegates be instructed to make a move in the direction of gecting on behalf of local Clubs a share of gate receipts or else a reduction in the annual fees. With a "view to encouraging junior football the Union is to be asked to contribute towards travelling expenses of junior teams and also redur.e the -charge at gate to fid per head, except if) the case of the most important fixtures.
The playing of three test matches against the English team is advocated by Otago 'and Auckland footballers.
