METEOROLOGICAL.
At 9 a.m. yesterday, Captain Edwin issued the following forecast for xiie subsequent 24 hours: — Wind. —Easterly; heavy gale at places southward from Thames and Kawhia to Castlepoint; easterly, : strong to gale in all other parts of the North Island, and also in the South Island northward of Lyttelton and Hokitika; northerly, strong to gale elsewhere. Barometer.—Fall everywhere. Rain. —Very heavy on east coast i between Thames and Napier, and is probable in all other parts of the country. Warning signal for easterly gale is •exhibited at Tiritiri and East Cape, Cape Campbell and Farewel l Spit, but for northerly gale at Cape Foulwind and Nugget Point. Mr J. C. Boddington reports that the rainfall registered at Upper Plain for the Ss4 hours up to 9 a.m. on Saturday was 2 points, and for the 24 hours up to 9 a.m. on Monday 4 points.
