TE ORANGA HOME ENQUIRY.

BY TEIjKGKAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRI3TCHURCH, March 6. The principal witness at the Te Oranga Home enquiry wasto-dayMiss Margaret Early, who recently resigned from the position of matron of the Samaritan Home in Christchurch. Her evidence dealt entirely with the action taken by the matron of Te Oranga (Mrs Branting) to get the custody of a girl who had been lodged in the Samaritan Home for a year. Miss Early protested against the girl being returned toTe Oranga, and she was suspended for declining to carry out the instructions pf the chairman to facilitate tho transfer. Miss Early said that it had been arranged to send the girl to a suitable situation, and she considered that the transfer would not be in her best interests. Another witness (Nurse Morris), formerly of the Samaritan Home, said that the girl had a horror of Tc Oranga. She was very much surprised to learn that the matron had received letters couched in most affectionate terms from the girl. The enquiry was adjourned till Monday next.
