A DEFICIT OF THREE MILLIONS.
THE PREMIER AND UNIFICATION.
Recehed March 5, 8.10 a.m. CAPETOWN, March 4.
Mr J. X. Merriman, Cape Premier, speaking at Victoria West, announced a deficit of three millions. The Government's chief efforts next session would be to increase taxation and make the colony solvent. Referring to the necessity of closer union of the States, he said South Africa was over-governed and unable to stand the expense. Personally, he favoured one Parliament.
