FREETRADE WITH CAPE COLONY AND NATAL. GENERAL BOTHA SPEAKS OUT. Received March 4, 9.29 p.m. PRETORIA, March 4.
General Botha (Premier) declares that the farmers' request for the reiinposition of a protection duty against the neighbouring States is absolutely impossible. He will, he states, rather resign than surrender his principles. He thought that some day the duty on oversea goods might he increased. Freetrade with Cape Colony and Natal must continue. It is contended that the speech will produce friction between the Ministry and the Het Vlok party.
