FURTHER EVIDENCE,
BY TELEGRAPH - ASSOCIATION*. CHRISTCHURCH. March 4. The inquiry into the management • of the Te Oranga Home was continued to-day, and evidence was given in corroboration of that given previously. Several girls stated that they bad been strapped by the matron and confined in the cells and detention yard for a month after attempting to abscond. One witness stated that when she returned to the Home, after abscording, she was strapped ar.d put in the ' cells. She complained to an attendant that she had a sore throat. She was afterwards strapped again for refusing to eat her food. Some days later the doctor saw Iter and ordered ''her removal to a hospital, where she was in bed for a month. Several witnesses accused the matron of boxing the ears of girls, and all objected to the hard outside " work.
