A Forty Feet Fall.
SEAMAN'S MARVELLOUS ESCAPE. WANGANUI, March 3. A seaman named Schiston ha ! a marvellous escape from death during the passage of the barquentine St. Kilda from Newcastle to Wanganui. When 800 miles from Wanganui, about a week ago, Schiston fell from the upper topsail yard on to the deck —between 40 and 50 feet. It was at first thought he had been killed outright, but examination revealed that he was unconscious. A piece of bone had been broken off his elbow, there were two bad gashes in his legs, his nose was brokan, and the man was badly bruised generally and shaken. First aid was rendered, and on arrival yesterday the unfortunate man was taken to the hospital, where his injuries are being attended to.
