monthly meeting. The monthly meeting of the Wai.rarapa South County Council was held ■at the County offices, Carterton, on Saturday. There were presenters. T. V. Moore (chairman), F. -Court, R. Barrer, D. Douglas, J. Strang, H. S. Mason, G. Stevens and R. G. Welch.

It was reported that Booth and Co. had agreed to pay half the cost -of replacing the culverts which had recently been burned on the Maungatarera Valley Road. The treasurer's statement s.howed a credit balance at the Bank of New and of £550 19s Bd. The receipts ''Mk the last meeting had been £304 i™sd.

A Setter was received from the Carterton Borough Council asking fcr permission to take 1,800 cubic yards of metal from the pit on Mr E. Goodin's property, situate in Park Road, Carterton. It was resolved *that the Borough Council be informed that owing to the limited quantity c f metal in the pit only 650 yards could be supplied. The appointment of the Council's engineer, Mr F. T. M. Kessel, B.Sc.E., to act as consulting engineer to the Borough Council during the progress of the street improvement works was approved of. A letter was received from Mr W. F. Day, of Gladstone, requesting that a culveit be put in on the road leasing to Brooklyn lioad. The engine™.' informed the Council that aihad been made for the work to be done, but as it was not necessary for the work to be carried out immediately the matter could stand over until the winter. A communication was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs enclosing a petition with respect to a portion of the Carterton Borough being included in the County. It was resolved that the Council, on its own behalf, enter a protest against the petition, and that a counter petition on behalf of the Dalefield and Belvedere Ridings be prepared and lodged with the Minister.

On the motion of Cr Moore, seconded by Cr Strang, it was decided that the engineer should carry out the necessary repairs to Cornwall Koad,

kffr Barrer moved, and Cr Strang seconded that tenders be called for forming a 6ft track on Bismark Road. The motion was carried.

It was resolved that persons leaving obstructions on the roads within the county be given notice to remove them without delay. The Council decided to provide extra accommodation for roadmen at Ahiaruhe.

It was resolved that in view of the cutting up of the Carrington Estate that the Government bfi asked to makeprovision for gravel reserve. Accounts amounting to £1,213 Is lid were passed for payment.
