A conference of inter-State Ministers of Agriculture has adopted a comprehensive scheme for combined action in dealing with fruit pests
THEFTS FROM WHARVES
MELBOURNE,. February 29. At the half-yearly meeting of the Melbourne Steamship Company, Mr Reid, the chairman, said that over £12,000 was annually paid in claims among the companies for thefts from wharves.
A WAGES BOARD
A NEW SOUTH WALES PROPOSAL. SYDNEY, February 29. The Premier, speaking at a banquet at Newcastle, foreshadowed a Wages Board Bill. The Governmgnt, said Mr Wade, should see that the necessary machinery is provided for continuity of work in every industry. He asked for the assistance of all sections to remedy ineffective arbitration legislation. It was necessary that there should be a tribunal to deal with disputes with promptness, and that it should be presided over by a man engaged in the industries concerned.
AUSTRALIAN NAVIGATION BILL.
MELBOURNE, February 29. Referring at the half-yearly meeting of the Melbourne Steamship Company to the Australian Navigation Bill, Mr Reid (chairman) said it was calculated to destroy the trade of Australia, and if passed would debar some cf the finest steamers from coming here.
