PERSONAL.
Word has been received by Mr J. 'Orr, of Kakariki, of the death of his mother at Kilbarchan, Scotland. , The Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), who has been confined to his bed for three days with a very severe attack ■of dysentry, is much improved and almost well enough to attend co business again.
Mr F. W. Carey, manager of the Masterton branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.,
Ltd., was i passenger to Wanganui , - by the midday express train on Saturday last. Mr Carey will be away for about a fortnight, and during his absence Mr E. J. Mirams will be in •charge of the local branch. A pleasing ceremony was performed a£ the offices of the local branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, Co., Ltd., on Saturday "morning last, when Mr F. W. Carey, manager, was the recipient of a handsome solid silver entree dish and hot water kettle and fittings from the members of the Wairarapa staff, on the occasion'of his approaching marriage. The presentation was made by Mr E. J. Mirams, who wished Mr Carey and his future bride every happiness and prosperity. The recipient suitably acknowledged the gift.
