NEW PLYMOUTH, February 24. Light rain fell on Saturday night, and Sunday morning, and again this morning. It seems general over North Taranaki, and though insufficient to benefit pastures much, is quite enough to remove all anxiety about fires. The sky is still overcast and threatening.
ELTHAM, February 24. Rain fell at Eltham on Saturday night, but only a light shower—not sufficient to benefit the grass. AUCKLAND, February 24. Heavy rain fell last night, and the weather is still showery. REEFTON, February 24. Rain on Saturday checked the bush fires. The to.vn water supply has been temporarily repaired, but a good deal of damage was done to the fluming. The Electric Light Company's fluming was badly injured, and will take a week to repair.
