GALES IN ENGLAND AND IRELAND.
CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE.
A MARKET HALL WRECKED
Received February 24, 8.26 a.m. LONDON. February 23. Gales in the Midlands, North-west of England, and Ireland, accompanied by terrific hail, stopped hundreds of football matches. Three grandstands were unroofed. The market hall at Stockport was wrecked. A marquee, in which were 400 children, collapsed at Stratford. All were rescued. The damage done by the storm is estimated at several hundred thousand pounds sterling.
A VESSEL CAPSIZES
EIGHT PERSONS DROWNED,
LONDON, February 23. The schooner Reginald Fisher capsized in the Mersey during the gale. Eight persons were drowned.
