AMERICAN RAILWAY EMPLOYEES.
LABOUR CONDITIONS AFFECTING THEM.
COMMISSION OF INVESTIGATION.
Received February 24, 10.22 p.m LONDON, February 24.
The New York correspondent of "The Times" states that President Roosevelt has again stirred the country by means of a letter requesting the Inter-StateCommerce Commission to investigate the labour conditions affecting the railway employees and a possible reduction in their wages.
Some interpret this as an attempt to secure for Mr W. H. Taft (United States Secretary of War) the Labour votes at the Presidential election. Others believe that it is a wise move for the prevention of strikes, as it is apparent that the railway companies are facing conditions wherein they must reduce the number of men employed or cut down the wages.
