MacArtney made a single, and tried to pull Barnes but mis-hit, Crawford getting a simple catch. One for 10. The wicket was apparently GIVING A LITTLE TROUBLE. Although Noble found no difficulty in scoring. O'Connor stayed quite a respectable time, although he played somewhat flukily, and wisely left the scoring to his partner. After he had got nine he tipped Crawford into the wicket-keeper's hand. Two for 46. NOBLE BOWLED. Gregory joined Noble, but the latter was almost immediately bowled by a fine ball from Barnes. Three for 46. , A FINE CATCH. Hill partnered Gregory. The South Australian got off the mark immediately, and hai a dozen up in 18 minutes. Then a really clever catch by Hutchings dismissed him. Hill got Barnes round to leg. The hit was high, but a long way clear of Hutchings. Tne latter with a great sprint and managed to nail it one hand almost on the ground. Four for 64-

Armstrong was next. Play was very slow till the luncheon, the weather becoming dull. Armstrong was out in the second over after lunch, Crawford catching him off his own bowling in a simple fashion. Five fcr 72.

TRUMPER GETS DOUBLE FIGURES.

Gregory was a long time getting double figures. Trumper partnered him, and runs came more freely, but Trumper only got double figures when he lashed at Barnes, and snicked it to Braund in the slips. Six for 94. Crawford and Barnes bore the brunt of the bowling, and the wicket suited them.

The century was obtained in 119 minutes. Ransford scored 11, then lifted Barnes high to Gmn, wno effected a brilliant catch on the boundary. • Seven ior i 24.

The attendance at the adjournment reached six thousand. Fane and Hobbs commenced the Englishmen's innings. Hobbs obtained a single off Noble's first ball, but the fourth ball clean bowled Fane. One for one.

Hobbs and Gunn, playing steadily, had 50 on the board in as many minutes. Both had the bowling well in hand, although Macartney, O'Connor, Armstrong, Noble and Saunders tried to dislodge them. As the wicket improved, Hobbs began to take more liberty, hitting brilliantly. The century was compiled in hundred minutes. - Gunn scored his half century in 105 minutes by patient cricket.
