AN EXCITING TRIP,

AUCKLAND, February 20

The Premier and party had an exciting trip white motoring from Rotorua to Matamata. In the middle of the bush road behind Mamiku a large tree which had been burnt in the bush fires lay right across the track, and the motor was pulled up within a couple of feet of the obstacle. Later, near Putururu, the motor was goinground a curve, and came right upon a mass of flames sweeping right across the road. A hasty retreat brought the party to a nlace of safety. The journey was resumed after the fire'had burned across the road.
