THE Wairarapa Age MORNING DAILY. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 1908. THE SHOW.

The officials, the public and the exhibitors are alike to be congratulated upon the successful character of the , twenty-first annual show of the Masterton AgricuHural and Pastoral Association. In all departments the entries exceeded those of last year, but the outstanding facts of the exhibition are that not only has Masterton achieved a record for New Zealand in the number of entries for stock, but generally speaking the Wairarapa has shown that it can hold it* own against the rest of the dominion in the quality of its sheep, cattle and horses. In these three divisions of stock this district has made rapid strides, and this is due to the enterprise and forethought of the breeders who of late years have spared no expense in going in extensively for scientific breeding. The evenness in excellence in some of the classes demanded from the judges the keenest scrutiny, and they were eulogistic in their praises of the various exhibits. The officers and all concerned in the management of the show had worked with a zeal born of individual and collective enthusiasm to make the display a record one, and the same spirit was manifested in making the ground arrangements as perfect as circumstances would permit. The re-

suit has been eminently satisfactory, for to-day the Masterton A. and P. Association stands pre-eminent among kindred associations in New Zealand, so far as the exhibition of stock is concerned. We trust that the Committee of Management will next year encourage the exhibition of agricultural machinery; If thi? is done no agricultural and pastoral show in the dominion will rank in public interest and estimation higher than ours.
