With four wickets down for 85, the position of the home team did not look too promising.
Waddy and Macartney, however, collared the bowling, and for the sixth wicket added- 86.
The Waddy-Bowden partnership provided brilliant and lively cricket.
New South Wales, at the drawing of stumps, had nine wickets down for 354. The score was as follows :
