DUNEDIN CHAMPIONSHIP
MEETING
BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, February 15. The Dunedin Amateur Athletic Club's annual sports meeting was held to-day. Additional interest was lent to the gathering by the presence of the New Zealand team en route to Hobart for the Australasian championship meeting. C. L. Oi-bell (Canterbury) put up a splendid performance in the high jump, negotiating 5 feet 9£ inches, and beating the New Zealand record put up by R. Brownlee at Dunedin in March, 1899, by three eighths of an inch. Kerr was in good form, and won both walking events without much trouble. The following are the results of the principal events: Putting the 161b weight.— L. McKay, Wellington, 36ft sin, 1; Skinner, 35ft 4|in, 2; McFarlane, 34ft lOlir, 3. v One Mile Flat Championship.—H. G. Burk, Dunedin, 1; S. W. Moore, Canterbury, 2; G. McKnight, Dunedin, 3. Won easily. Time, 4min 45 4-ssec.
220 Yards Championship of Otago. —Fisher, Wellington, 1; Hoare, Dunedin, 2; Bauchop, Dunedin, 3. Time, 25sec. One Mile Walk Handicap.—Kerr, Wellington, scr, 1; Stubberfield, Canterbury, 25yds, 2. Won by six yards. Time, 6min 58 4-ssec. Deans (195 yards) had a big lead in the last lap, but was disqualified for lifting. 220 Yards Flat Handicap.— McBride, 9yds, 1; McDougall, 13yds, 2; Reid, Byds, 3. Fisher (scr), Wellington, qualified for the final, but finished last. Time, 24 3-ssee.
