REV. DEAN M'KENNA.
HIS SILVER JUBILEE AS A
PRIEST,
On March 11th next, the Very Rev. Dean McKenna will celebrate the silver jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood, and for the purpose of considering what should be done to signalise the occasion, a meeting of parishioners of St. Patrick's Church was held yesterday, after the late Mass.
Mr A. R.' Bunny occupied the chair, and in his introdudctory remarks said that the celebration of the silver jubilee as a priest was a great event in the life of a priest, and in some countries was the occasion of great ceremonies. The speaker went on to say that out of the 25 years the Dean had laboured in the service of the Church, 21 years had been spent in Masterton. During that period he had done a great deal to further the cause of the Catholic Chur;h in Masterton, and had earned the respect of all the parishioners, and no doubt the parishioners would be anxious to express, in some tangible form, on the occasion of the jubilee, their appreciation of the Dean.
After some discussion, it was decided on the motion of Mr B. J. Dolan, seconded by Mr A. Stempa, to take steps to celebrate the jubilee in a @fitting manner, and to open a subscription list among the parishioners.
A strong committee was appointed, with Mr Bunny as chairman, Messrs O'Connell and Stempa as treasurers, and Mr Dolan as to consult the Dean as to what form the celebration shall take, and to arrange all details in connection therewith.
