STRIKE OF BUTCHERS.
TIMARU, February 13. This morning all the butchers at the Pareora Freezing Works struck on account of one of their number being discharged for smoking on "the board." There is a special place provided for smoking, but the butch»r discharged infringed the regulations by smoking on the board. Mr R. H. Rhodes, one of the directors of the company, unsuccessfully endeavoured to settle thegmatter amicably. The men were given until the afternoon to resume work, failing which others will be taken on. Meanwhile are stopped.
