OUR WATER SUPPLY.

We are pleased to perceive that the, Borough Council has at la3t come to our way of chinking in connection with the water-supply. The visit of the Councillors, yesterday, to\ the headvvorks gave them a rather unpleasant surprise, and so quickened their action that at a meeting held in the coach which conveyed them to tb'e intakes, they decided to adopt Mr Laing-Meason's temporary expedient for overcoming the present watersupply trouble. We are by this determination amply vindicated in the attitude we have all along -tak'en in regard to this very important question. In quantity and quality the present supply is bad, and it is satisfactory to know that no time is to be lost in improving the condition of affairs. The proposed temporary sche*ne will form part of the full scheme to be subsequently adopted, and will not involve a very great outlay. It is a pity the suggestion we so often put before the Council has been so, long delayed, seeing the great peril in which the town has been and must yet for some weeks be left; but hetter iatc than never. Now that a decision has been come to to adopt common-sense methods in this matter, we can only hope that the utmost expsdition will be shown in giving effect to it. j
