THE CARRINGTON ESTATE.

ACQUISITION BY THE GOVERNMENT. QUESTION OF COMPENSATION. The hearing of claims against the Government in connection with the taking, undsr the Lands for Settlement Ad. of the Carrington Estate, containing 6,178 acres, and situated near Carterton, has been fixed for Febrary 17th and 18th, at Wellington, before his Honor the Chief Justice SJir Robert Stou', and Messrs McKerrow (assessor for the Goyernent), Stevens (assessor for the Public Trustee)," and Bunny (assessor for the claimants') Following are the claims: —

(1) William Howard Booth, of Carterton, sheep-farmer, owner of the fee simple. £7,000 for the land, and £9,600 for incidental losses. (2) Miss Kate Eliza Rathbone, an annuitant, £3,000 as the capital value of her annuity.

(3) Mrs Euphemia Booth, an annuitant, £7,500.

- (4) Mrs Alice Gibson Wickham (wife of MrE. R. Wickham, of Waitara, builder), an annuitant, £2,500. (5) The Public Trustee representing the executors in of the late William Booth, loss of timber and tramway rights. MrD. M. Findlay will represent the Minister for Lands; Mr Skerrett, K.C., will appear on behalf of William Howard Booth, Miss K. E. Rathbone, Mrs Euphemia Booth, and Mrs Alice Gibson Wickham; and MiMyers will act for the Public Trustee.
