Importing Factory Hands.

A PROTEST. BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, February 7. The scarcity of girl labour was a subject discussed' at the meeting of th? Trades and Labour Council. Mr Lischler, in referring to the statements made by employers and factory said he thought there had been a good deal of exaggeration. The pressing demand only existed during the busy months preceding Christmas, and he was of the opinion that if factory hands were imported from England as had been suggested they would be walking the streets for nine months out of the twelve. Mr Agger also spoke against the proposal to obtain Government assistance in importing labour, and it was resolved to make a strong protest against any such action.
