CRICKET.
HENDERSON CUP. €ARLTON v. C/vRTERTON. A match—practically deciding the Thursday Championship—was commenced at Carterton yesterday between the local team and Carlton. Carlton went to the wickets first, being represented by Voyce and Waters. Forty-nine was up before ] Hart stumped Waters, who had made 23 by clean hitting. Swan joined Voyce, and the pair carried the score to 62, when Hutchinson bowled Swan with a good ball. Moss joined Voyce, but at 68 the former was bowled by Hutchinson. F. Welch and Voyce put a different complexion on the game, and banged the bowling all over the field. The score was taken to 118 before Maunsell bowled Welch, who had made 24 by good cricket. Thanks to the good batting of Voyce, Hoar and Lett, the score was taken to 166. Voyce played a capital innings for 56. His score included eight 3's, seven 2's and a 4. Hoar shaped really well for 15 not out. while Lett gave a nice display for 14. Carterton, made a poor stand against the bowling of Swan and Moss, and were all uut for 73. Of this number the last wicket (F. Fairbrother and Berriff) put on 28. Swan bowled capital'.y, taking five wickets for 20. Moss got two for 31, but bowled without luck. Tne Carlton's fielding was, taken altogether, good. Owen was particularly brilliant, and put two men out by his smart returns. Carlton in their second innings have lost one wicket for 43. Waters hit well for IS, while Hoar is not out with 22 to his credit, made by good cricket. Hoar is a very promising bat, and his displays in both innings for Carlton give promise of a successful future as a cricketer. The scores were as follow: — CARLTON—Firot Innings.
