MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

— ORDINARY MEETING. The Masterton Borough Council held its ordinary meeting last evening. In the absence of the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), from whom an apology for absence was received, Cr J. H. Pauling presided. There were also present—Crs J. Elliott, A. W. Pragnell, J. Prentice/ J. Yarr, W. Morris. Mr W. G. Beard waited on the Council and submitted rough plans for the extension of S'assex Street to Herbert Street. The details of the sketch were explained, and Mr Beard "asked the Council to give consideration to the matter as early as possible! He pointed out that thi* was an opportunity for opening up Sussex Street, which, if not given effect to now, might not present itself again for a good many years at least. The plans were referred to the Works Committee for consideration. The Acting-Engineer reported that the "jaws" of the stone-crusher had fallen into a state of disrepair through use, and on this account the work of preparing the tar macadam for Queen Street had to be held in abeyance. The Acting-Engineer was instructed to obtain prices for new parts and submit them to the Works Committee, who were given power to Mr A. Caselberg wote desiring the Council to form a tarred footpath at least three, feet wide along his frontage in Sussex Street. The letter was referred ,to the Works Committee. A letter was received from the secretary of the Masterton Club, asking for a refund of the sum of £5 2s, being the amount overcharged to the i club in the water rates for 1906-7 and ] paid in error. Consideration of the request was referred to the Finance Committee. Mr Edward Peters wrote asking permission to sub-let the block of land at the waterworks reserve, recently leased by him from the Council, to his eldest son, who would take the property over on the same conditions as he himself had secured it. The request was acceeded to. ~ IT IS A.
