WELLINGTON HIDE AND SKIN SALES.
r Mesrss Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report:—We held our usual sale of skins, hides and tallow at Wellington, on Friday last, when a lengthy catalogue of skins and hides was submitted to a larger attendance of buyers than usual. The demand for skins was not keen, and a decline of Jd to |d per lb was experienced in the best classes, and Id to l£d ior inferior. Hides were well competed for, and prices showed an advance of about Id per lb on last sale rates. Calf skins were not in good demand. We quote as follows:—Sheepskins— I Best nierino, 8d; medium and inferior, sd; half bred, 6gd; fine crossbred, 5Jd to 6£d; medium and inferior, crossbred, 3Jd to 4|d; crossbred; dead, 3fd to 4d; dead and bro- . ken, 2|d to 3|d; pelts, to4d; pelts, salted, la Id each; lambs, salted, Is each. Hides-70lbs, sid to 6Jd per lb; 551b, s|d to s£d; cows, 461bs to 521bs, 4gd, 401bs 3Jd to 4|d; calf, 3Jd to 4&d per lb. Tallow—ln casks, £24 to £24 15s per ton; in tins, 17s 9d to 20s 3d per cwt.; rough fat, 16s 9d per cwt. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report as under: —There was a fair attendance of buyers at our sale on Friday, but bidding was not brisk for sheepskins, which show a considerable drop from prices obtained a month ago. Hides of good quality improved in value to the extent of about id per lb. Light and damaged hides still rule at low prices. Calfskins are lower by Id to ljd per lb. We quote—Sheepskins, Fine ' crossbred and half bred, 6d to 6£d per lb; coarse and medium crossbred, 4d to 5Jd per lb; dead, 2Jd to 4Jd per lb; broken and inferior, Id to 2d per lb; pelts, lOd to Is 3d each; lambs, Is to Is 3d each. HidesOx, light, 4d to 4Jd per lb; cow, 3|d to 4Jd per lb; damaged, l£d to 3|d per lb; calf, sound, 3d to 3Jd per lb; calf, damaged, Ad to 2£d per lb. Tallow—ln casks, 24s per cwt; in-odd packages, 18s to 19s 3d per cwt; rough fat, 17s, per cwt. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report as follows regarding Friday's sale: — We offered 1,400 skins, 1,230 hides and calfskins, and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. - There was a good attendance of buyers. Wool is being held for the sale on 21st February. Skins—The market was quiet and lower owing to the low rates which were ruling in London at the last skin sale. We quote: Fine crossbreds 6d to 7d, coarse crossbreds 5d to 6d, dead skins 4d to 4Jd. dead hoggets 3d to 4d, dry pelts 3d to 4d, green lambs Is to Is lid, green pelts Is to Is Bd, lamb pelts 8d to Is. TallowSteady. Parcels in shipping order .£24. Tins £ls to £2O. Rough fat £ls. Horsehair —Is to Is 4d per lb. Horns—6s to 18s 9d per hundred. Cowtails—ls to Is 4d per dozen. Hides—We had an excellent selection of well-conditioned hides, which met with strong competition at higher rates than have been ruling recently. Prime ox hides advanced *d to |d, ;and good cow hides Jd. Inferior t hiijes, however, barely held their ' own, and calfskins which are selling badly in oversea markets were quite a penny lower. We quote: Ox hides, extra heavy, 6d to 6sd, ox hides, 601bs to 70lbs, sgd to 6|d, ox hides, •50lbs to 59Ibs, s£d to sgd, cow hides 3fd to 4§d, calfskins, best, 4d to 4£d,\ calfskins, cut and slippy, 2d to 3d, stag hides 2d to 2|d, bull hides 2d to 2§d. Our next sale will be held on •the 14th February, 1908. Sore and swoollen joints, sharp shootdng pains, tortured .muscles no rest, no sleep. When you feel like this it mcaus that you have rheumatism.
