BUSH AND GRASS FIRES.

HAMUA IN DANGER. EKETAHUNA, February 3. The soutnerly wind on Saturday freshened the fires in the Hamua district and an anxious time was experienced by residents! In a number of instances furniture was removed from the houses to places of safety. A three-roomed cottage, occupied by W. White, alongside,, the hotel,, was destroyed. A little of the furniture was saved. Several cowsheds and outbuildings were demolished, and general damage done to the township, which has been in grave danger from destruction. Native*, living on the hill opposite the hotel cleared their whares of everything and slept in the open air all night. The fires have now subsided.
