SALE OF PAINTINGS. In Messrs Howell and Co's Auction Mart, which assumes for the time quite the aspect of an art gallery, is displayed a highly interesting collection of oils and pastels by Mr J. Douglas Perrett. an artist whose work is widely known not only in Australia and New Zealand, but vvhb has won appreciation in ths United Kingdom, where his colour conceptions have been. warmly praised. Among the oils now on view there are some productions of conspicuous merit. Standing out prominently are—"Evening of a Grey Day, Lake Te Anau," "Milford Sound," "Lake Manapouri," " Waikaremoana," and "Evening, Mount Cook." There are also many other fine pictures of wellknown beauty spots of the dominion. They are characterised by beautiful colour schemes and effective draughtmanship. The treatment of the light and shadow of mountain and water is that of a rilaster hand. In the pastel work, which is characteristically soft and delightful in every way to those who enjoy art contemplation on "the nearer vision," may be specially mentioned, "The Clinton River," "White Terraces, Rotomahana," "Milford Sound" and "The Drop Scene of the Wanganui River." The pictures are open to public view now, and will be displayed by gaslight this evening, between seven and nine o'clock; and the auction sale will take place to-morrow, at 2.30 p.m., Mr Howell conuucting the sale.
SALE OF STUB LINCOLN SHEEP. Messrs Abraham and WilHams, Ltd., announce a sale of stud Lincoln sheep, to be held at Gladstone on Friday, 14th instant, on account of Mr William Strang. This flock was founded thirty years ago by Mr ,Strang's father, and has been worked up to its present high-class by careful and judicious selection of sires from the well-known flocks of Messrs J. B.
