ASSASSINATION OF ROYALTY.
THE KING OF PORTUGAL AND ' HIS SON THE VICTIMS. THREE MURDERERS KILLED ON THE SPOT. Received February 2, 5.9 p.m. LONDON, February 2. Word has been received hero that Carlos 1.. King of Portugal, and H.R.H. Luiz Philippe, Duke of Braganza (Crown Prince o v f Portugal), have been assassinated. Three of the murderers were killed on the f\pot. ROYAL FAMILY FIRED ON BY ARMED MEN. KING AND CROWN PRINCE MORTALLY WOUNDED. THE INFANTA SLIGHTLY WOUNDED. MIRACULOUS ESCAPE OF THE QUEEN. Received February 3, 12.30 a.m. LISBON, February 2, Particulars concerning the assassination of the King and Crown Prince show that the King and Queen, accompanied by the Crown Prince <ind the Infanta Manuel, were out drivinc in Lisbor. in an open carriage, at 5 o'clock. When they were leaving the Praco do Commercio a group of men opened fire upon them with carbines. The King and Crown Prince were mortally wounded, and the Infanta Manuel slightly. The Queen had a miraculous escape. She rose to ' shield the. Crown Prince, but was not hit. The police immediately fired on the regicides, and killed three. The King and Crown Prince were removed to thejiaval arsenal, having received three bullets each.. They died shortly afterwards.
(Carlos I. was the soil of King Louis 1., and was born on September 28th, 18G3. Prior to his accession to the throne lie was known as the Duke of Braganza. In May, 1886, he married Marie Amelie, daughter of the Comte de Paris. He succeeded his father as King of Portugal on October 19th, 1889. Luiz Philippe, Duke of Braganza, was born on March 21st, 1887).
