Mr W.' Roy., of Carterton, has decided to take a trip to England Shortly. Mr W. Long, the newly-appointed Dairy Inspector for South Wairarapa, took "up his duties on Saturday last. Miss Godfray, matron of the Dannevirke Hospital, is about to leave the dominion on, an extended trip to the Old Country. Mr A. Webster, manager of the Bank of Australasia at Wellington, has been appointed chief inspector for the Bank for New Zealand, in the place of the late Mr H. K. Bethune. The lady members of the Featherston Presbyterian Church have presented Mrs L. F. Keys, a prominent member of the church, who is leaving the district shortly, with a handsome pair of serviette rings as a | token of esteem. Mr G. Apperley, of the Masterton Post Office staff, has received notice that he is. to be transferred to the Palmerston North office this week. His place will be taken by Mr R. Williams, formerly of Masterton, and now stationed at Palmerston North. The funeral of the late Mr F. G. Tully took place at Greytown yesterday afternoon, and was attended by settlers from all over the Wairarapa. The services at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. E. T. Wynne Bond, Vicar of S. Luke's Church. Mr M. Foley, C!erk of the Court at Feilding, will succeed Mr E. Rawson, who has been promoted to the position of Stipendiary Magistrate at Westport, as Clerk of the Court at Masterton. Mr Foley was formerly t in the Magistrate's Court office at Wellington, and was subsequently Clerk of the Court at Gore. The death occurred at Clareville on. Friday night last of Mr Ellis Goodin, a very old settler'of the Wairarapa. The deceased, who was 85 years of sg2. came to New Zealand in 1841, and took up his residence in the Wairarapa many years ago. The funeral took place yesterday at the Clareville cemetery. The cortege was a large and representative one. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Riv. R. Young. Vicar of S. Mark's Church. Mr Owen McCardle, Secretary of Staples and Co., brewers. Wellington, who was taken in an unconscious condition to a private hospital on Friday afternoon, died at 8.15 o'clock on Saturday morning without regaining consciousness. The cause of deatrt was heart failure. The late Mr McCardle, who was one of Wellington's best known citizens, was born in Castleblane, County Monaghan, Ireland, and was 57 years of age. He came to Wellington about 23 years ago, where he had practically resided ever since. He had been connected with the firm of J. Staples and Co. for about 18 years past. He was a cousin of the Hon. Hamilton Gilmer, and leaves a widow and a family of five children, one of whom is absent in the Old Country.- About two years ago Mr McCardle was taken i'l with a heart seizun, and after his recovery took a trip to Australia. Last ysar, in company with his wife, he went on a voyage bo England, and only returned about two months ago, when he appeared to have quite regained his health. Mrs McCardle arrived in Masterton on Saturday morning, and the body was taken to Wellington by the, 5.30 p.m. train for interment.
