A LIVELY COUNCIL MEETING
NELSON AGITATED OVER THE HALF-HOLIDAY. BY TELEGRAPH —PKESS ASSOCIATION. NELSON, January 31. At a special meeting of the City Council, larst. night, to consider the question of fixing the weekly halfholiday, deputations were present favouring Wednesday and Saturday respectively, and were supported by a large gathering of the townspeople. After a heated debate, the council resolved in favour of Saturday, which will therefore be the statutory closing day for the next fifteen months, when the ratepayers will vote on the question at the municipal elections. Proceedings were lively throughout, and st times the crowd in the auditorium was very disorderly.
WELLINGTON LAND BOARD. The Wellington Land Board met on Thursday last, Mr John Strachan, Commissioner, presiding, and Messrs A. Reece, J. Dawson, J. A. M'Comb, and C. J Canton being present. The following application for land were approved:—Section 6, block 19, Matigahao, JR. P. Jensen; section part 2 of section 12, block 19, Mangahao, R. C. Jensen; section 14, block 1, Mangaone, K. Wilhelmsen. The following transfers were approved: —Section 44. block 7, Tararua, N. G. Larsan to E. A. Fade; section 16, block 11, Makuri, A. Anderson to T. ,W. Hughes; sections 8 and 7, block 8, Puketoi, J. Naiion to E. G. Darlington; sections 4 and 2, block 2, Mangahao, H. P. Brightwell to 11. Buckrell; section 84, block 1, Makuri, A. Newman to F. W. Newman; section 17, blocks 6 and 10, Makuri, T. Delehunty to J. J. Hall iday. Permission for subdivision was recommended in the case of E. G. Harris, of section 13, block 13, Huangaroa, to Mr T. F. Smith.
